Wrestling coasts in doubleheader

The Virginia wrestling team rolled past Newberry 37-3 and Campbell 48-0 Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium to improve to 16-4 on the season.

Only sophomore Jack Danilkowicz in the heavyweight division lost an individual bout in the two matches, falling to Cy Wainwright of Newberry. The Cavaliers combined for six falls, five major decisions and one technical fall.

Junior Rocco Caponi, ranked 12th nationally at 184 pounds, recorded a fall in both of his matches. Freshman Michael Chaires scored Virginia's lone technical fall at 165 pounds against Chris Mazzatta of Campbell.

In addition to Caponi, sophomore Ross Gitomer, junior Eric Albright, freshman Nick Nelson, freshman Shawn Harris, junior Drew DiPasquale and sophomore No. 20 Brent Jones also recorded two victories on the day.

After Danilkowicz suffered the only loss against Newberry, he recovered to record a major decision in the day's final match against Campbell's Robert Yoder.

After a week off, Virginia travels to Durham Sunday for an ACC afternoon doubleheader, with N.C. State at 1 and Duke at 5.
