Honor Forum cancelled

The Honor Forum scheduled for March 26 has been canceled due to lack of interest, according to Josh Hess, Honor Committee vice chair for community relations.

"It was cancelled because we wanted to be confident that the turnout was going to be what we wanted," Hess said, noting that the response he received from students indicated to him that a truly meaningful dialogue would not be a possibility.

The purpose of the forum, according to Hess, was for Committee and community members to discuss important issues such as the single sanction, the Committee's long-term goals and the Committee's role in student life.

"We wanted it to be a sort of opportunity for the old and the new committees to sit in a room with members of the community to try and find out what members of the community feel are a priority," Hess said.

The anticipated low turnout, however, did not come as a complete surprise, Hess noted.

"Historically, there hasn't been a particularly large turnout," he said.

Whether a similar forum will be scheduled in the future will be decided by the incoming committee, Hess said.
