Men's tennis dominates Virginia Tech

The No. 1 Virginia men's tennis team shut out No. 37 Virginia Tech 7-0 yesterday in Blacksburg to remain undefeated on the season.

Virginia (17-0, 3-0 ACC), whose dominant effort included victories from the team's five nationally ranked players and three nationally ranked double teams, dealt the Hokies (9-3, 2-1 ACC) their third consecutive loss.

Virginia was led by No. 1 senior Somdev Devvarman, who defeated No. 55 senior Albert Larregola in two sets, 6-1, 6-1.

As the final month of regular-season play approaches, Virginia continues to dominate highly regarded opponents. Of its 17 victories, 15 have been against teams in the top 50, including three consecutive 7-0 sweeps.

The Cavaliers remain in first place in the ACC standings with eight conference matches left until the ACC Tournament April 17.

Two matches remain in Virginia's stretch of four away matches in just over two weeks. The Cavaliers will play Georgia Tech Friday at 3 p.m. and Clemson Sunday at 1 p.m.
