StudCo inducts new Executive Board

Last night The Colonnade Club played host to the formal transition ceremony for Student Council, during which President Matt Schrimper stressed his eagerness to begin his term and work with his peers.

"I'm most excited about the individuals coming in and I think it's an indication of things to come for Student Council," Schrimper said, adding, "We'd love for any individuals in the community to join Council, to get involved and make an impact at this institution."

Schrimper and his Executive Board, including Vice President for Administration John Nelson and Vice President for Organizations Kayla Wherry, formally took their positions last night when they where sworn in by former Council executives.

"It's been a long month of getting ready," Schrimper said. "I can't tell you how excited I am about working with all of you."

During the ceremony, outgoing President Lauren Tilton reflected on her experience as president.

"It's an exciting time for new Council and former Council as we look to our accomplishments of this year," Tilton said. "I think part of the fun of self-governance is to see new leaders coming in and to know that they will be able to learn from many of the experiences that have shaped our careers here at the University."

Like Tilton, former Executive Vice President Melissa Warnke shared her thoughts on her work with Council at last night's ceremony.

"It has been a pleasure getting to work with all of you," Warnke said. "I feel as though incoming representatives have large shoes to fill but if anyone could do it, it would be them."

Outgoing Chief of Staff Ryan McElveen echoed Schrimper's comments about the importance of the individuals who make up Council.

"I have enjoyed working with all these crazy people," McElveen said. "When I look back on U.Va. I will not remember Student Council; I will remember the individuals."

Before the ceremony, Council passed an amendment so its recently prepared new bylaws would be in place for the first meeting of the newest Council's term.
