I-64 suspects face 15 total charges

The two suspects charged with the recent Interstate 64 shooting are now facing five additional charges related to other shooting incidents in Albemarle County.

According to an Albemarle County Police press release, the two suspects, Slade Allen Woodson, 19, from Afton, Va. and a 16-year-old male from Crozet, face two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, which is a class four felony, and three counts of shooting into a vehicle, which is a class five felony.

Lieut. Todd Hopwood, Albemarle County Police spokesperson, said the two suspects have been implicated in the investigations of eight other shooting incidents that occurred the same night as the I-64 shootings around Albemarle County. The offenses range from unlawful firing of a weapon and vandalism to more serious offenses such as class four and five felonies, Hopwood said.

The suspects will only face five charges from the additional eight shootings, Hopwood said. The five new charges, when added to the charges related to I-64 incidents, total to 15 counts against both suspects.

Ballistics evidence collected at the scenes of the crimes around Albemarle County is believed to match the evidence from the I-64 shootings, according to the press release.

"Same people, same night, same time frame," Hopwood said. "We could stack up misdemeanors all day. There are a lot of charges. We sent the evidence to the prosecutor and she picked the ones that are most serious, the ones she can prosecute on."

The juvenile suspect, according to the press release, is in custody at the Blue Ridge Detention Center in Albemarle County, while Woodson is currently incarcerated without bond at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona, Va.
