The 16-year-old suspects charged in the case of the March Interstate 64 sniper shootings is scheduled for a hearing Wednesday to determine whether he will be tried as an adult when the case proceeds.
He, along with Slade Allen Woodson, 19, are each being charged with multiple counts of malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle, shooting from a vehicle and shooting at an occupied dwelling, Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney Denise Lunsford said.
Lunsford noted that a motion has been made to try the juvenile as an adult alongside Woodson.
When a "juvenile over a certain age is charged with certain offenses, [he or she] sometimes must be and sometimes can be tried as an adult," Lunsford said. "There are evaluations performed, information gathered to tell the court a little about this juvenile to see ... whether or not the person's needs can be met in the juvenile system or whether they are better suited for the adult system."
Lunsford added that proceedings for the case could begin any time during the summer or early fall.
