Pink Floyd’s Rick Wright passes away
Longtime Pink Floyd member Rick Wright passed away Monday after a “relatively short struggle with cancer,” according to former bandmate David Gilmour’s Web site. Wright was one of Pink Floyd’s founding members and made several valuable contributions to such classic albums as Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. While he primarily served as the band’s keyboardist, he also has numerous vocal and songwriting credits to his name. As of yesterday, Wright’s family has “requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

Country rockers electrify Pavilion Saturday
With their latest album, Brighter than Creation’s Dark, garnering rave critical and fan reviews, the alt-country band Drive-By Truckers has returned to the success they garnered with earlier records, such as Decoration Day. After branching out into other genres, such as ‘70s Brit-rock, and losing guitarist Jason Isbell in 2007, the band took a break after touring constantly since 2001. Returning with full force after the success of BTCD, the country rockers hit up the Charlottesville Pavilion Saturday, with openers and current folk-rock favorites the Avett Brothers. Tickets are $30 and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Other standouts include  The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofsky, and The Hurt Locker, directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
