HR unveils new hiring plan

The University’s Human Resources Department announced that it is planning to change its hiring process, said Susan Carkeek, University vice president and chief human resource officer.

All staff posting and recruiting will be done internally, with the exception of professors, research faculty and librarians, Carkeek said in an e-mail, which was sent out to University faculty and staff.

The policy is being implemented in response to the economic recession, Carkeek said.

“It is a win-win,” she said. “It is good for our employees and will help the University.”

Carkeek explained that she hopes the new process will help keep University faculty and staff working for the University.

”Right now, 33 percent of posted jobs are filled by current University staff and Human Resources hopes this new approach will increase those numbers,” she said.
