Students report armed robbery

Two University students reported being robbed at 2:15 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and 15th Street N.W., Charlottesville Police Sgt. Randy Higgins said. Three black males between the ages of 16 and 20, one wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt, approached the students.

One of the suspects showed a handgun and demanded money, leading one of the students to give his wallet to the suspect. Following the incident, the student called the police from a nearby residence.

Police officers were able to apprehend one of the suspects, a 17-year-old Charlottesville juvenile, who was found to have a BB gun. He was arrested and charged with robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery, a felony punishable by a minimum term of imprisonment of three years for a first conviction and five years for a second or subsequent conviction.

No one was injured during the robbery, Higgins said.
