Ranked opponents await Cavs at Ameritas Players Challenge

After second consecutive Jefferson Cup victory to start season, Cavs look to build off momentum against elite foes

Right around this point last season, the Virginia women's volleyball team swept three matches en route to winning the Jefferson Cup at Memorial Gymnasium and looked to be off to a good start to the season. Those wins, though, were against three relatively weak opponents, and the Cavaliers went on to lose five of their next six matches, hovering around .500 the rest of the way.

This year, again, Virginia cruised to the Jefferson Cup title; now, the Cavs look to prove that they can put more tallies in the win column for the rest of the season against some better competition. That improved competition opens this weekend: Virginia (4-2) heads to Lincoln, N.E. to take on No. 5 Nebraska , No. 8 UCLA
