Doesn't it just seem that the past couple of weeks have flown by? Forget midterms and readings and practice schedules - we here at tableau would just love a chance to kick back, read a magazine, sip a cup of tea and rock out to Ratatat. But for some reason, the stars have aligned to make the weeks fly by and the cold weather hasten.
But while we're reluctantly pulling out the horrid sweatshirts to match the season, we're attempting to stay vigilant in our profiling of the hippest, most under-the-radar or - conversely - high-profile releases of our day (although sometimes, we may just want to listen to The Beatles and read Tocqueville).
So what do we have for you this time around? (Jeez, is it already Thursday? What happened to Monday? Yes, we are craving Mondays now.) Foremost, we give you a glimpse at both versions of Where the Wild Things Are - the Maurice Sendak staple-for-childhood version and the edgy, multifaceted Spike Jonze version. The conclusion? Both encapsulate the glories and treachery of a liberated imagination but do so in a way that makes you yearn to don your wolf costume and create havoc.
We know you didn't dare miss the epic Metallica concert - but if you did, we look back at a classic album and determine whether the band still garners the same reverence from its fanbase. Similarly, if you missed the Latino Student Alliance dance show, we give you a detailed play-by-play of all the spicy visual pleasure not to be missed next time around.
Remember the Flaming Lips blow-out concert at the Charlottesville Pavilion circa 2006? Well, unfortunately neither do we. But the band's latest release will more than make up for any lost time you've had away from the experimental rockers.
We know time flies when you're having fun. So we'll try not to have too much fun the rest of the semester and provide you with plenty of leisure-time fodder.
