After two key ACC wins during the weekend, Virginia secured the No. 7 seed in this weekend's upcoming ACC tournament. For the last seven games, the Cavaliers have been unranked. With a 3-1 record against their last four conference opponents, though, Virginia managed to earn a No. 25 ranking going into the tournament.
As the seventh seed, the Cavaliers will face second seeded Boston College, which is ranked seventh nationally. In their last regular season matchup, the Eagles and Cavaliers battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. A goal during the first overtime finally gave Boston College the edge.
Virginia will heavily rely on junior midfielder Sinead Farrelly, who scored two game-winning goals last weekend. Farrelly was named ACC Player of the Week for her performances and received first team all-ACC honors for the third time. With seven goals and six assists, Farrelly leads the team in points with 20. She is only the sixth player in Virginia history to be thrice named first team all-ACC.
The rest of the eight-team field in the conference tournament includes six teams in the national top-20. Should the Cavaliers defeat the Eagles, they will face the winner of the match between No. 3 seed North Carolina and No. 6 seed Maryland. The Tar Heels are undefeated in ACC tournament play with an all-time record of 54-0-3 and have won 19 of the conference's last 21 championships.\nOn the other side of the bracket, No. 1 seed Florida State, which Virginia upset last Friday, will face eighth seeded Duke. Fourth seeded Virginia Tech will face fifth seeded Wake Forest.
