Last night saw the elections of the new representative body of the University Judiciary Committee after a week-long voting period.
Many of the representatives share common goals to increase transparency, efficiency of case processing and equality of representation of UJC.
Third-year Will Bane, who was reelected as a College representative, has served as a member of UJC for three years. Bane currently serves as the vice chair for trials and oversees the First-Year Judiciary Committee. According to the University Board of Elections web site, Bane has authored more policies during the last two years than any other member of UJC.
"I'm thrilled to get another year on the committee," Bane said.
His experience with UJC may allow him greater perspective about what UJC needs to do during the upcoming year.
"Transparency continues to be a big issue, and next term, we need to be reaching out and making sure students are familiar with UJC," he said.
Second-years Halley Epstein and Greg Tilton will join Bane as representatives of the College. Tilton expressed sentiments similar to those of Bane in regards to his goals for UJC.
"Students should learn why the decisions they made that brought them to us were poor choices, how these decisions effect them and how these decisions impact those around them," Tilton said. "I want students to learn from the whole experience and grow from it."
Third-year Sara Harper, who was re-elected as Architecture representative, said the organization's purpose can be misconstrued by students at times.
"It's important that people understand what UJC does," Harper said. "Our main goal is to keep you safe."
Second-year Bela Dhamankar and third-year Borna Kazerooni were elected representatives of the Engineering School. John Pappas, who completed his undergraduate education at the University in 2009, will serve as Law School representative.
Third-years Emily Flavin and Katelyn Overstreet will represent the Nursing School. Third-years Lauren Dougherty and John Zettler were elected as Commerce School representatives.
