Men break top 10 in NCAAs for third time since 2003

For the second year in a row, the Virginia men's swimming and diving team earned 10th place in the country at the NCAA Championships. The team's placement marks the third time it has broken top 10 since 2003 but fell short of last year's ninth-place finish - the program's best performance ever.

The Cavaliers finished the championship meet Sunday with 123 points. Virginia was the highest-finishing representative of ACC, led by juniors Matt McLean and Scot Robison, who both earned All-American accolades. Robison placed eighth in the 200-meter free and 12th in the 100 free, while McLean touched in at number 10 in the 500 free.

McLean and Robison joined senior John Azar and junior Taylor Smith in the 800 free relay to clock in at a fourth-place time worthy of All-American recognition. The men were successful during the relay portion of the meet, placing seventh in the 400 medley and eighth in the 200 free.

Led by Robison and followed by Azar, McLean and sophomore Peter Geissinger, Virginia placed ninth overall in the 400 free relay after winning the consolation race in 2:52.16.
