Darden will offer global MBA degree

New program to target students who have minimum of 10 years of business, leadership experience

The Darden School will launch a new Global Executive MBA program for experienced business leaders next fall.

This Master in Business Administration program is geared toward individuals with a minimum of 10 years experience in management and leadership positions. As a result, it will be taught at a higher level than regular business programs.

The program was established as a response to "the fast growth in potential MBA students in the global economy in Asia and across the globe" and the demand for qualified executives in the marketplace, said Peter Rodriguez, associate dean for International Affairs at the Darden School and director of the program. It seeks to recruit executives with global mindsets and a basic aptitude for learning, said Sankaran Venkataraman, faculty leader for the program.

Additionally, the program includes a study abroad period in various overseas locations, including India, China, Brazil and Europe. These experiences are intended to "make sure students are globally ready to lead organizations in emerging markets," Rodriguez said.

By structuring the program in six modules of two-week periods during the course of 20 months, the program accommodates degree candidates who wish to pursue their MBAs without leaving their current jobs.

The two-year program is estimated to cost $115,500-135,000 overall. Candidates wishing to apply to the program will not have to undergo a separate process from the regular Darden School application. Enrolled students will begin classes in October 2011.
