Kick-Ass packs a punch

Comic book-inspired film spews colossal on-screen impact

"Seriously, out of all the millions of people who love superheroes, you think one would give it a try," says Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), the audacious superhero and title character of Kick-Ass. This is no tale of web-slingers or the last son of an alien race; Kick-Ass gives us the real world we live in and shows us what happens when a kid just like us tries to realize the superhero fantasy: He gets his ass kicked. Despite that realization, Kick-Ass holds together as an inspiring, funny, and exhilarating film, and definitely one of the best comic book adaptations to date.

A typical geeky high-school boy, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) takes the initiative to buy his own (lame) costume and fashion himself into the altruistic hero Kick-Ass. After his first failed attempt, one of Dave's attempts at crime-stopping turns into a brawl, which a bystander posts on YouTube, turning him into an Internet star with plenty of friend requests. Everything turns for the worse, however, when he's targeted by the mob.
