Two players win individual titles

Two players on the Virginia men's tennis team claimed individual titles this weekend at the U.Va. Fall Classic.

Junior Philippe Oudshoorn and sophomore Brian Fang won the orange and black singles draws, respectively. Both Cavaliers won in three sets, defeating opponents from California and Eastern Kentucky in the finals.

Sophomore Dino Dell'Orto, junior Steven Eelkman Rooda, redshirt sophomore Reese Milner, freshman Justin Shane and junior Santiago Villegas also competed for the Cavaliers in the season-opening tournament.

Each player except Dell'Orto won his opening match, while Rooda and Oudshoorn advanced all the way to the finals in the orange doubles draw before falling to junior Nick Andrews and sophomore Riki McLauchlan of California.

Players from 21 schools, including Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Maryland and N.C. State competed in the tourney.

Virginia's top players, including senior Michael Shabaz and junior Drew Courtney, who recently competed in the U.S. Open, did not participate in the tournament.
