Foundation honors Love

The family of former University women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love has created the One Love Foundation with the aim of fostering the development of service, kindness, humility and sportsmanship in young adults. The foundation's website outlines several of its initiatives, including a scholarship award and a character-based program to bring sports, specifically lacrosse, to underprivileged communities.

"In turn, the beneficiaries of such programs would be encouraged to 'pay it forward' and volunteer in their own communities," the organization's website states.

In creating such programs, the foundation hopes to "bring out the Yeardley" in everyone "by promoting strength of character and service."

Among the foundation's first initiatives is to create the Yeardley Reynolds Love Turf Field at Notre Dame Preparatory School, Love's high school alma mater.

The "One Love" website offers outsiders more glimpses into Love's life, which came to an end in May during an altercation with her former boyfriend and fellow lacrosse player, George Huguely. The website includes pictures of her and her family and a personal letter written by Love as a high school freshman.

"If I had to wish for three things in my life, they would be to go to the University of Virginia for college, have a happy and healthy family when I grow up, and to always stay close and keep in touch with my family," she wrote. "So far my life has been filled with joy and happiness and I hope to keep living my life that way."

Donations can be made from the One Love website and creators will soon release a T-shirt line to support the foundation. For more information, visit www.joinonelove.org.
