Two on-Grounds walkways will be closed because of ongoing construction projects.
McGuffey Drive, the road directly behind Garret Hall, will be closed Oct. 13 until Nov. 29 to accommodate renovations at Garrett Hall, according to a University press release. This closing will affect both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Administrators plan to remove the construction fence alongside the building to limit vehicle access to the southern portion of the lawn. Pedestrians will be rerouted to the sidewalk running along the southern face of the building, which looks toward the Amphitheater. Renovations for Garrett Hall are projected to be completed July 2011. The building, originally constructed as a dining hall and later converted for office use, will be outfitted with new air conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression and data systems.
Upon completion of the renovations, the building will accommodate the Batten School.
A portion of the sidewalk located near the University Art Museum on Rugby Road also will be closed to pedestrians as workers replace several ailing trees with a new artistic outdoor terrace, according to a University press release.
Construction has already begun and will continue until the end of January. In the meantime, pedestrian traffic will be redirected.
