For the seniors on the No. 8 Virginia women's soccer team, the Sweet 16 has always been a bitter pill. In three appearances, the Cavaliers have never managed to crack that third round game.
"Oh my God," senior midfielder Sinead Farrelly said. "It's like every year I've been here."
The Cavaliers have lost four straight Sweet 16 matches and have not reached the quarterfinals since 2005. This year, however, one important factor in the team's success has changed: location.
"We're home," Virginia coach Steve Swanson said. "Previous games like this we would have been on the road. We might have been home for the first and second rounds, but we were traveling for the third round. Hopefully that's something that we can take advantage of."
