Sweeps propel team in dual meet victory

The Virginia men's and women's swimming and diving teams brought their dual meet schedule to a victorious close this weekend, collecting road wins against N.C. State.

The men's team topped the Wolfpack 164-125, as freshman Taylor Grey, senior Matt McLean and senior Scot Robison each collected two individual event-titles for the men's team. Grey pulled the Cavaliers ahead in the breaststroke events, while McLean and Robison commanded the freestyle contests. Senior Taylor Smith, senior John Snawerdt and freshman Brad Phillips produced a 1-2-3 finish for the men's team in the 1000 freestyle, and sophomores Matt Murray and Brady Fox took charge in the backstroke portions of the meet.

The No. 11 Virginia women recorded a 168-117 victory, earning a series of sweeps against their conference foes. Sophomore Lauren Perdue led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 and 200 freestyle, while junior Kelly Flynn touched first in the Cavalier's 100 freestyle sweep. Virginia also commanded the 1000 frestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly, posting sweeps in each event.

The Cavaliers hope to see the same overwhelming success as they prepare for their next competition Feb. 11-13 at the Maryland Invitational in College Park.
