The Cavaliers arrived at Virginia Tech this weekend ranking No. 1 in two polls. After outscoring the Hokies 37-8 during a three-game sweep, the team made a case to be the country's unanimous top team.
Virginia (28-2, 11-1 ACC) plated 17 runs in four innings Friday, as the team took the opener 18-3. Virginia Tech (14-16, 1-11) scored two first-inning runs, but Virginia responded with five runs during the third frame and six more during the fourth. Each Cavalier starter reached base at least twice, and junior third baseman Steven Proscia led the offensive onslaught with five RBIs.
Virginia's starting pitching starred Saturday, as senior Tyler Wilson tossed seven scoreless innings during a 9-3 win. Senior outfielder David Coleman provided much of the offensive firepower, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer during the fourth.
Virginia carried its hot-hitting to Sunday for a 10-2 win. Senior catcher Kenny Swab paced the Cavaliers with three runs, while senior pitcher Cody Winiarski threw five shutout innings.
The Cavaliers return home tomorrow to face Radford at 6 p.m.
