Asque earns All-ACC Team honors

Senior outside hitter Simone Asque took some of the sting out of the Virginia volleyball team's expected ninth-place conference finish this season.

Asque earned a selection to the 2011 Preseason All-ACC Team Tuesday- the third-consecutive season she has been named to the team by the annual ACC volleyball preseason poll.

During the 2010 season, Asque averaged 3.77 kills per set and 0.32 aces per set - marks which ranked third and second in the ACC, respectively.

She also totaled 419 kills last year to enter the season with 1,038 kills and become the 15th Cavalier in program history to reach the 1,000 kill milestone for her career.

Virginia received 45 points in the preseason poll; pundits picked Duke to take the conference title with 117 points and nine first-place votes.

The Cavaliers kick off the regular season against Western Michigan Friday as part of a three-game slate for the Marriott Cavalier Classic.
