ATI obtains Mann

The University submitted a 4.3 megabyte disk with 3,827 pages to the American Tradition Institute's Environmental Law Center yesterday, making ATI the first group to successfully retrieve former University Environmental Sciences Prof. Michael Mann's emails, grant applications and notes regarding his research on global warming. Twelve organizations opposed the request.

The release of Mann's materials comes more than seven months after ATI made an official Freedom of Information Act request in January.

The University withheld more than 5,000 pages of Mann's materials, according to an ATI statement. University officials could not be reached for comment.

"ATI is currently reviewing the documents provided by UVA and has no further comment at this time," ATI said in a statement.

Attorney General and University alumnus Ken Cuccinelli, who issued a Civil Investigative Demand requesting Mann's research in an effort to determine whether he defrauded taxpayers, is still continuing to litigate his case in court.
