After enjoying the winningest season in program history, the Virginia baseball team returns to the dugout at Davenport Field at 6 p.m. tonight for an exhibition game against the Ontario Blue Jays.
The Cavaliers concluded the 2010 season with a 56-12 record, an ACC Championship and the program's second College World Series appearance.
Virginia lost 11 members from last season's squad but retooled its roster by adding a 13-member recruiting class that Collegiate Baseball ranked No. 17 in the country. Ten freshmen and three junior college transfers bolster a lineup already boasting 20 letterwinners from last year.
Among those returning for the 2011-12 season are junior shortstop Chris Taylor, who started all 68 games and led the team with 63 runs, as well as junior closer Branden Kline, whose 18 saves ranked third nationally.
Tonight's game will feature 14 innings of action as the Cavaliers compete publicly for the first time this fall. The team began practice Sept. 3 and hosts its annual intrasquad Orange and Blue World Series starting Oct. 2.
