Who: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and researchers from the University of Michigan

What: Scientists have mounted piezoelectric generators on the wings of the Green June Beetle. The devices, which use pressure to generate electricity, power implanted mind control chips. The implants allow researchers to control the beetle's movements during flight.

The Future: Research institutions plan on implanting the devices directly into muscles. Potential applications include use in search and rescue missions, exploration, intelligence and surveillance, and environmental monitoring.

Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond.
