Who: Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
What: MIT's quarter-sized energy harvester harnesses energy for wireless sensors from low frequency vibrations such as those found in pipelines, bridges and other environmental low-power energy sources. It can be used to monitor many different kinds of devices like traffic signals and factory machines.
Future: The energy harvester could potentially eliminate the use of battery power. It can generate 100 times more power than similar devices.
