Demon Deacons silence Cavaliers

The No. 7 Virginia women's soccer team fell against No. 6 Wake Forest yesterday afternoon, losing 2-0 in the final game of its four-game road trip. Corner kicks were the key for the Demon Deacons (11-1-1, 4-0-1 ACC) as both of their goals came on set pieces.

Wake Forest started the scoring during the 22nd minute when junior midfielder Ally Berry headed in a corner kick from freshman midfielder Riley Ridgik. The Demon Deacons struck again during the 63rd minute as junior defender Jackie Logue scored on a rebound after Virginia senior goalkeeper Chantel Jones notched one of her three saves on the afternoon.

Apart from goals scored, the Cavaliers (8-3-2, 2-2-1 ACC) dominated Wake Forest statistically, outshooting the Demon Deacons 15-8 as well as holding an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.
