Matt Schaub, a former standout signal caller at Virginia and starting quarterback of the Houston Texans, reportedly will miss the rest of the NFL season with a Lisfranc injury.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Schaub suffered the foot fracture on a quarterback sneak late in the first half of Houston's 37-9 victory against Tampa Bay Sunday. Schaub remained in the game and finished 11-of-15 passing for 242 yards and two touchdowns as the AFC South-leading Texans improved to 7-3.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak named Schaub's backup, former Southern California star Matt Leinart, the starter for Houston's next game at Jacksonville Nov. 27.
The Texans acquired Schaub from the Atlanta Falcons in 2007. He had started every game for Houston since the 2009 season and is the winningest quarterback in the young franchise's history. He ranks among the league's top-10 quarterbacks in passing yardage and touchdowns this year.
At Virginia, Schaub was the 2002 ACC Player of the Year and threw for 7,502 yards, 56 touchdowns and a .670 completion percentage during his 40-game college career for the Cavaliers.
