Tech of the Week: Microlattice

What: The world's lightest material is composed of a metallic microlattice. Scientists claim the microlattice is 99.99 percent air and 100 times lighter than Styrofoam.

Who: Researchers from the University of California, Irvine, HRL Laboratories and the California Institute of Technology

The Future: The interlocking tubes of nickel are strong and shock absorbent. This material can be used in acoustics, battery electrodes and shock energy absorption.
