Police investigate death at hotel

After finding a woman's body at the Red Roof Inn on the Corner at 1309 West Main Street Sunday, Charlottesville Police yesterday identified her as 46-year-old Laura Daly.

A member of the maintenance staff found two people in a room on the eighth floor at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Charlottesville resident David Highfield, 63, was found unconscious and transported to the University Medical Center.

"The female in the room was found to be deceased," Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts said. "The police subsequently moved forward into investigation."

The police department contacted the family of the deceased, but would not release further details.

"Investigation is still continuing surrounding the death," Roberts said.
