Cavaliers ace tourney

The No. 12 Virginia women's tennis team won the Blue/Gray Classic in Montgomery, AL last weekend, reaching the final round with two decisive wins against Auburn and No. 33 Arizona before sealing the title with a nail-biting 4-3 win against No. 20 Alabama.

After rain washed out the first day of competition, the Cavaliers (9-2, 3-0 ACC) defeated Auburn (5-3, 0-0 SEC) 5-0 Saturday morning.

No. 21 senior Emily Fraser continued her strong play at first singles, taking a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Emily Flickinger. No. 94 sophomore Li Xi, junior Hana Tomljanovic and No. 122 junior Erin Vierra also won straight-set victories to help Virginia advance to the semifinal.

In their second match of the day, the Cavaliers trounced Arizona (7-3, 0-0 Pac 12) 4-0. The team again thrived in singles, with No. 41 senior Lindsey Hardenbergh, Xi, Vierra and sophomore
