Student Council tables resolution

Proposed legislation urges Board of Visitors to pay employees living wage; Studco moves to delay vote

Student Council moved yesterday at its general body meeting to table a resolution sponsored by College Rep. Marco Segura which would urge the Board of Visitors to pay at least $13 per hour before benefits to direct and contract University employees.

Segura asked Council representatives to suspend the usual discussion procedures and pass the resolution without tabling it first.

Council resolutions typically proceed through a three-part process, which requires bills to be proposed, presented and tabled for at least a week to allow representatives sufficient time to gauge student interest about the measure.

Segura introduced the measure, in part, because the Board of Visitors meeting is scheduled for today and said he feared waiting to pass the resolution would be detrimental to the Living Wage Campaign.
