Virginia closes regular season

Three top contributors return for dual matches against No. 23 Old Dominion, George Mason

The No. 21 Virginia wrestling team returns home Sunday to close out its stellar regular season with a pair of dual matches against in-state foes, No. 23 Old Dominion and George Mason.

Last Saturday, the Cavaliers notched their seventh consecutive dual meet victory in a 29-12 rout of Appalachian State to improve to 9-1 on the season. The trip to Boone, N.C. was the Cavaliers' first time traveling since Jan. 13, but the squad seemed unaffected even while wrestling without three of its top contributors.

"[Appalachian State] was hot coming into the match and we knew we had to be ready," Virginia coach Steve Garland said. "We wrestled with three of our best kids out, so we're really pumped because we feel like we can finally get everybody back in the lineup."

Virginia forfeited the 125-pound weight class for the second consecutive week without No. 11 redshirt junior Matt Snyder, and freshman Joseph Martinez again wrestled for No. 20 redshirt senior Matt Nelson in the 133-pound weight class.
