A hit-and-run incident involving a Charlottesville resident and motorbike occurred about 3 p.m. yesterday in front of Madison Hall on University Ave.
The victim sustained a non-life-threatening leg injury and was transported to the University Medical Center for treatment. The pedestrian, a white, middle-aged man wearing a white T-shirt, appeared responsive after the incident.
"It appeared that the pedestrian was stepping off of the [Charlottesville Area Transit trolley]" when the unidentified operator of the motorbike struck the pedestrian, Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts said. The motorbike operator then left the scene, heading in the direction of West Main Street.
Witnesses described the culprit as a white male wearing a bright red or orange helmet driving a gray motorbike, Roberts said.
University and Charlottesville Police, as well as an ambulance and fire truck, responded to the incident. While officers questioned witnesses, traffic was briefly interrupted and all vehicles were detoured to Madison Lane and Rugby Road.
City spokesperson Ric Barrick could not be reached for comment.
