Faculty Senate releases statement of tasks

Below is an announcement the Faculty Senate made Wednesday to all University faculty members in the wake of the resignation of Vice Rector Mark Kington and selection of Commerce School Dean Carl Zeithaml as interim President:

"Dear Colleagues,

We are gratified by the resignation of Vice Rector Mark Kington yesterday. We agree that this was the right thing to do in the best interests of the University. However, we renew our call on Rector Helen Dragas to follow the Vice Rector's lead and resign immediately.

We are still fighting for the reinstatement of President Sullivan.

We will honor our agreement to meet with Dean Zeithaml.

At the same time, we will push forward strongly on other fronts. We appreciate your comments and your continued commitment. We have already made a difference and we will not back down from fighting for our principles and for the University we love. We have work to do. Let's get to it.

The Faculty Senate Executive Council will hold office hours today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Open Grounds space . We will be recruiting faculty to serve on task forces we are setting up to work on various issues.

A list of task forces will be available at Open Grounds. Please come prepared to sign up for a task force. We will also receive any suggestions you may have for our meeting with Dean Zeithaml tomorrow.

Please stay on alert and be ready to respond quickly. Things are moving. With your help, we will prevail.

George Cohen\nChair, UVa Faculty Senate
