The Virginia volleyball team dropped conference matches at No. 11 Florida State and No. 23 Miami during the weekend.
The Cavaliers (7-17, 1-12 ACC) faced the ACC-leading Seminoles (21-2, 12-1 ACC) Friday evening. The teams traded 12 kills each in the first set, but Florida State prevailed, 25 -19. After a tight first round, the Seminoles blew Virginia away in the second and third sets, 25-11 and 25-16, while hitting .385 and .571, respectively.
Freshman outside hitter Kayla Sears provided one of the few bright spots for the Cavaliers. She recorded 11 kills, her sixth straight match with double digits in the category.
Two days later, Virginia returned to action against Miami (20-3, 12-1 ACC). The Cavaliers kept close in the first set but ultimately fell 25-20. The teams were tied 20-20 in the second before the Hurricanes took five of the last six points to win 25-21. Miami sealed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third and final round.
Virginia freshman outside hitter Natalie Bausback tallied 15 kills with a .286 hitting percentage, and sophomore setter Tori Janowski posted 25 assists and seven digs. Junior outside hitter Taylor Hollins led Miami hitting .647 with 11 kills.
Virginia faces Georgia Tech and Clemson at home this weekend. The Cavaliers play the Yellow Jackets Friday evening and the Tigers Saturday evening. Both matches will take place at Memorial Gymnasium.
