Coming off an impressive 70-57 rout of Davidson, the Virginia men’s basketball team (2-1) will take on the Navy Midshipmen (2-2) Tuesday night for the first time since 1974. After entering the season ranked No. 24, the Cavaliers find themselves unranked for the first time this season due in large part to the loss against Virginia Commonwealth.

The matchup against Navy will feature a battle of sophomore centers between Virginia’s Mike Tobey and Navy’s Will Kelly. Kelly, 6-foot-9, enters the game averaging 9.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-11 Tobey is coming off one of his best career games in which he scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and is averaging 11 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

The Cavaliers have the size advantage against Navy, which has only has two players 6-foot-4 or taller in its starting lineup. In contrast, Virginia has only one player shorter than 6-foot-4 — freshman guard London Perrantes — in its starting lineup. That same size advantage allowed Virginia to outscore Davidson 36-8 in the paint and out-rebound the Wildcats by a margin of 12 boards.

Bennett has made changes to his rotation by moving sophomore guard Malcolm Brogdon to shooting guard and putting freshman Perrantes in at point guard. The move paid off in the game against Davidson, when Brogdon torched the Davidson defense for 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Perrantes notched five assists in the game against Davidson, but continues to struggle from the field, having made only one of his 11 attempts this season.
