For the second time in many years, both the men’s and women’s Virginia cross country teams took home team titles at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Additionally, graduate student Iona Lake defended Sarah Falker’s title from 2014, winning the women’s Division I 5K.
Joining Lake in the top five of the 5K were junior Cleo Boyd and sophomore Megan Rebholz. The Cavaliers had five athletes score in the race, with graduate student Sarah Astin and freshman Emily Mulhern finishing ninth and 13th, respectively.
On the men’s side, Virginia had eight runners finish in the top 17 of the Division I 8K race. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was junior Henry Wynne, whose 24.02.2 time was good for fifth overall. Wynne narrowly edged out teammate sophomore Brent Demarest, who crossed the finish line two seconds later to secure a sixth-place finish.
Both teams will be action in action Oct. 16 when they travel to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational.
