Sophomore guard Kyle Guy led Virginia past the Demon Deacons with 17 points and four assists.

It may have been a tougher night than many expected, but the No. 2 Virginia men’s basketball team was able to pull through at Wake Forest for a 59-49 win, picking up its second-straight road win.

The Cavaliers (18-1, 7-0 ACC) continued their unbeaten streak in conference play and once again held an opponent to under 50 points. Wake Forest (8-11, 1-6 ACC) dropped its fifth-straight game and fell to 1-6 in ACC play.

Despite a sluggish offensive performance in the first half where the Cavaliers were outscored 24-22, they were able to overcome those issues and outscore the Demon Deacons 37-25 in the second half. The Cavaliers performed well from behind the arc, shooting 41.2 percent, but struggled protecting the ball — they committed 10 turnovers.

Sophomore guard Kyle Guy led all players with 17 points. He also added four assists and turned in a stellar effort on the defensive end, picking up four steals. Senior guard Devon Hall added 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Isaiah Wilkins provided a strong presence on the defensive side, blocking four shots. However, it was redshirt freshman guard De’Andre Hunter who stole the show, continuing his strong play, scoring 16 huge points and notching five rebounds.

Virginia has now won 10-straight games and will get ready to take on No. 20 Clemson in a probable Top 25 showdown at John Paul Jones Arena Tuesday night. That game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m.
