The University’s COVID-19 tracker reported a total of four cases over Saturday and Sunday, with three being faculty and staff members and one being a student. Last weekend, zero cases were reported among faculty and staff.
There are currently 64 total active cases in the community — 52 active student cases and 12 active faculty and staff cases. These numbers bring the seven-day average positivity rate to 0.46 percent — only up 0.01 percent from the previous week.
The University saw an average of eight cases per day last week, an increase compared to the previous week when the weekly average was five. Moreover, the weekly average of new student cases per day last week also saw an increase, with an average of seven cases last week compared to an average of three the week before. The weekly average for faculty and staff has consistently remained at one for the past three weeks.
According to the Blue Ridge Health District’s COVID-19 portal, the district saw a total of eight new cases over the weekend — six cases on Saturday and two on Sunday. As of Sunday, the seven-day moving average for the district was 20.9 new cases per day.
The entire state of Virginia moved into phase 2 vaccine distributions April 18, meaning that all individuals aged 16 or older who live in Virginia are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Virginia Department of Health, 3,404,507 people have received one dose of the vaccine in the state. In Albemarle County, 57,823 people have received one dose of the vaccine, compared to 23,038 people in Charlottesville.
The BRHD moved into phase 2 of COVID-19 vaccine distribution April 12, expanding vaccine eligibility to roughly 45,000 people in the district. Students began receiving emails that week inviting them to schedule vaccine appointments. In an email sent to students in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area Friday, Dean of Students Allen Groves noted that there are plenty of appointments available, and students will be receiving the Pfizer vaccine at the U.Va. Health COVID Community Vaccination Center. The University continues to invite students to schedule an appointment for the first dose of the vaccine.
This week, the BRHD received 2,340 first doses and 1,170 second doses of the Pfizer vaccine, in addition to 2,700 first doses and 600 second doses of the Moderna vaccine.
