CPD investigating sexual assault near 14th St NW and Grady Ave

The assault occurred at 10:00 p.m.in the area of 14th St NW and Grady Ave. 

A sexual assault was reported to the Charlottesville Police Department at approximately 10:33 p.m. Saturday evening, according to a community alert from UPD Chief of Police Tim Longo.. The assault occurred at 10:00 p.m.in the area of 14th St NW and Grady Ave. 

According to the alert, the survivor reported that was walking in the area of 14th St NW and Grady Avenue when she was approached by a male who forced her into nearby bushes and raped her. The survivor noted that she may have seen the suspect earlier in the evening.

The suspect is described as between 30 and 40 years old with a mustache and an afro-style haircut. He was wearing a red shirt and black shorts at the time of the assault.

This is the fifth community alert since February and the second related to sexual assault. One community alert relating to sexual assault was issued in April, and a timely warning related to a sexual assault was issued Wednesday. 

“Timely warnings” are sent when crimes committed pose an “on-going threat” to the safety of the community while “community alerts” are shared when there is sufficient and timely information that can be released to the community without compromising any on-going investigations.

Confidential resources provided by the University include Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health’s gynecology and general medicine departments, the Student Disability Access Center and the Women’s Center’s counseling staff.
