Shots fired incident reported on the 300 block of Paton Street

Investigation into the area confirmed that shell casings were recovered by Charlottesville Police Department

A shots fired incident was reported to the Charlottesville Police Department at 7:52 p.m. Monday. The incident was shared to the University community via a community alert by Timothy Longo, associate vice president for safety and security and chief of the University Police Department.

According to the alert, the incident occured at the 300 block of Paton Street in the area of King and Grove streets. No aspects of the suspect’s appearance are known as of Monday night. 

Following an investigation of the scene, the Charlottesville Police Department confirmed that shell casings were recovered. 

The 300 block of Paton Street is located south of Bond House and the Elson Student Health Center on Brandon Ave. 

“Community alerts” are shared with the University community when there is sufficient and timely information that can be released to the community without compromising any on-going investigations. “Timely warnings” are sent when a threat poses an “on-going threat” to the safety of the community.”

This incident marks the third timely warning sent out by Longo this fall, following a shots fired incident at The Standard apartment complex last week and a robbery at 1215 Lee Street Sunday.
