Charlottesville Police Department officers responded to an incident of aggravated assault Thursday night at 9:26 p.m. on the 1600 block of University Ave., per a community alert sent Thursday by Tim Longo, chief of the University Police Department and vice president for security and safety.
According to the report, a stabbing took place in the rear of the 1600 block of University Avenue, where the victim and a group of other individuals were gathered. The victim as of the time of the alert did not have life-threatening injuries.
A description of the suspect was not provided to the Charlottesville Police Department and an investigation into the assault is ongoing.
“Community alerts” are shared with the University community when there is sufficient and timely information that can be released to the community without compromising any on-going investigations. “Timely warnings” are sent when a threat poses an “on-going threat” to the safety of the community.
This is the third community alert since the 2021-22 academic year ended — CPD responded to reports of aggravated assault in mid-May and a reported incident of rape May 30.
