SUMMER SCENES: Architecture of Northern Italy

Editor’s Note: This gallery is part of a summer series from The Cavalier Daily photo desk staff. Over the course of the summer, photo staffers will craft galleries which capture moments from different places in Charlottesville and beyond.

The architecture of Northern Italy is a unique tapestry of cultures and time periods, spanning from ancient monuments to contemporary masterpieces. These photos highlight some of the architectural landmarks two photo staffers explored and studied during a U.Va. study abroad program based in the Veneto region. The curriculum was centered around the work of 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio, whose ideas and principles directly influenced Thomas Jefferson in his designs for Monticello and the Academical Village.
