In light of recent tragedies, Student Council is working towards establishing better connections between students and the resources the University and Charlottesville offer. By closing the gap between students and these resources, the Council hopes that students will be more likely to take advantage of these resources in the future, Murphy said.

U.Va. Student Council hosts Remembrance Through Action

The University Student Council hosted on Thursday “Remembrance Through Action,” an event dedicated to reflecting on recent community tragedies and connecting students to safety and wellness resources available to them at the University and in the Charlottesville area.


Over the last four years, participation in Writer’s Eye has grown significantly at approximately 15 percent annually, Hunt said. The contest is expected to receive around 1700 entries this year.

Fralin holds 29th annual Writer's Eye competition

The Fralin Museum of Art recently launched its 29th annual Writer’s Eye literary competition — an “ekphrastic” contest which asks writers to use the visual art of the Fralin as inspiration for their own original pieces of poetry and prose.

But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
