Friends request Second Year Council paint over Hannah Graham Beta Bridge message

Three words painted across Beta Bridge helped to keep hope alive for 35 days: Bring Hannah Home. Now more than two weeks since second-year College student Hannah Graham’s body was found, Second Year Council painted over the message Wednesday night, covering the cursive scrawl with a thick layer of neutral-toned paint at the request of Graham’s friends. “I think it’s time,” said Graham’s friend Jenna Van Dyck, a third-year College student.

ABC increases spirits price markups

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) plans to markup the price of liquor sold in its stores in an effort to generate more revenue. The income will go towards a combination of the state government budget and an investment in ABC’s technology.

U.Va. designated as Virginia Ebola response center

The Virginia Hospital & Health Care Association Board of Directors Monday announced an agreement to initiate an Ebola treatment response plan, designating the University as one of two response centers. The VHHA is an alliance of 110 hospitals and 35 health delivery systems that develops health care policies in the commonwealth.

Professor Larry Sabato hosts Crystal Ball, releases midterm election predictions

Politics Prof. Larry Sabato hosted his annual Crystal Ball predictions Monday night, predicting Republican gains in Tuesday’s congressional and state elections. Sabato and his team said they predict the Republican Party would gain a total of eight seats in the Senate to gain a 53-47 majority as well as nine seats in the House of Representatives, which which would give them a 243-192 majority.

Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
