Batten School Dean to step down

Batten School Dean Harry Harding announced Thursday he will step down from his position at the end of his five-year term, which ends at the conclusion of the academic year. As the founding dean of the Batten School, Harding has helped set the foundation for the school and develop the school’s degree programs for both graduate and undergraduate students.


	After hours spent debating, Charlottesville’s City Council came to a compromise on Monday night, preliminarily adopting a Human Rights Commission to address discriminatory practices that exist within the city Monday evening. Vice-Mayor Kristin Szakos, above left, offered a proposal which was amended and then approved preliminarily by Council.

City Council appoints Human Rights Commission

The Charlottesville Office of Human Rights appointed 11 members to the newly formed Human Rights Commission last Monday. The Commission was formed by the Charlottesville City Council last May to facilitate community dialogue and engagement about eliminating discrimination.

Fire Department, U.Va. lead fire safety campaign

Representatives from the Charlottesville Fire Department, along with the University’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety and the Charlottesville Property Maintenance office teamed up Thursday afternoon to lead a door-to-door fire safety campaign in student off-Grounds housing areas.
