Baker, Bunting seek Engineering Council VP

Second-years Colin Baker and Michael Bunting are vying for the position of Engineering Council Vice President, Colin Baker and Michael Bunting. The vice president helps to lead the nine standing committees, five representative bodies and executive board, which make up the Engineering Council.

Panelists discuss Ukraine protests

A discussion panel addressing government responses to recent violent political protests in Ukraine was held Friday at Rouss-Robertson Hall. Fourth-year Commerce student Anna Buynova, the president of the Slavic Student Association, invited experts from the American Enterprise Institute and other organizations to offer commentary on the issue.

University ranks near top of foundation giving nationwide

The Advancements and Communications Committee of the Board of Visitors met Thursday afternoon to discuss the University’s fundraising results for the past fiscal year. Alumni giving, corporate giving, foundation giving and friend giving were all addressed, and the University ranked very high among public institutions in most of these categories.

Board to vote on European Studies M.A.

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences has proposed a master’s degree in European Studies to the Board of Visitors, who will discuss the program during its Educational Policy Committee meeting this Thursday and vote on the measure in its full meeting Friday.


	More Architecture students per capita studied abroad last year than students in any other school. One in five Architecture students spent some time abroad in the 2012–13 academic year. On the other end of the spectrum, less than 5 percent of both Engineering and Nursing students participated in a study abroad program.

Study abroad still attracts high participation

As the world becomes increasingly connected and globalized, more and more students are studying abroad each year. A report released by the Institute of International Education puts the number of U.S. students who studied abroad in the last academic year at about 283,000 — a 62 percent increase in the last 10 years.


Overall, there were 96 offers of admission to the Architecture School, 3,955 offers to the College, 62 offers to Curry School, 1,025 offers to the Engineering School and 65 offers to the Nursing School

Transfers face challenges, but blossom at University

Every spring, the University accepts approximately 700 transfer students, a select group of students from widely varying backgrounds. In the fall, the new Wahoos join the university community along with incoming first-years, but these students took a different path to Charlottesville. Transfer students undergo a unique application process before taking their place in the student body alongside four-year students.
