Virginia softball was swept aside by Longwood twice Wednesday afternoon, dropping the first game of the doubleheader 6-4 and falling 8-4 in the encore.
Virginia softball continues its season with a midweek doubleheader against Longwood in Farmville, Va. The Cavaliers (4-27, 1-13 ACC) are coming off three road losses to Pittsburgh and hope to better hold the leads they work so hard to earn.
Virginia dropped all three games of a weekend series with Pittsburgh. The Panthers (11-14, 3-5 ACC) earned their first ACC sweep winning 10-2, 9-4, and 7-6. Game one was all about the long ball.
The season-long struggles of Virginia softball continued Thursday evening with a two-game series against George Mason. The Cavalier bats managed to produce runs, but ineffective pitching and shaky defense created insurmountable deficits.

Virginia softball could not buck their losing ways at the Mary Nutter Classic. The Cavaliers (2-11) won only one of the weekend’s five games despite showing much more life at the plate.
The Virginia softball team heads westward for the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Cal. The lineup for the Cavaliers includes BYU, Pacific, Oregon State, Fresno State, and No. 6 Oregon in their final tournament of the year.
Virginia softball kicked off its season at the South Carolina Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. this weekend. The Cavaliers (1-4) struggled around the board, and fell by mercy rule in the tournament’s final two games.

Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage announced Tuesday that Oregon assistant Blake Miller has been named the Cavaliers’ new head softball coach. Former coach Eileen Schmidt had resigned May 13 after six seasons at the University.
The Virginia softball team bounced back from a rough weekend by sweeping Liberty in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The 7-3 and 7-6 wins give the team some momentum heading into their final regular season series against Virginia Tech.
